Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

A hit-and-run accident is a scary incident in which a car hits another car or a person and then speeds off without stopping to assist the victim. It frequently happens due to careless driving, distraction, or intoxication.

According to ValuePenguin, fatal hit-and-runs rose from 1,342 in 2010 to 1,939 in 2019. In the same time frame, deaths increased by 44%, from 1,393 to 2,005. California saw the greatest rate of fatal hit-and-runs throughout this time.

According to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, California had 337 hit-and-run fatalities in 2010, 60% greater than the deaths recorded ten years earlier.

Since hit-and-run accidents are on the rise, it is important to be aware of the dangers they pose. In a hit-and-run accident, one party hits another vehicle and then immediately leaves the scene. This can be very dangerous for all involved, as the driver who was hit may not know who hit them or why they left. Additionally, if the driver who hit the other car does not stay at the scene, they may never be caught. This can lead to a lot of frustration on the part of those involved and safety concerns as well.

If you are ever in a hit-and-run accident, staying calm and taking some basic steps is essential. First, make sure that you and any passengers are okay. If there are any injuries, call 911 immediately. Then, try to get as much information about the other car as possible. This includes the make, model, and color of the car, as well as the license plate number. Take pictures of the car and license plate if you can. Finally, write down everything that you remember about the accident. This can help investigators determine what happened and who was responsible.
