Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Not every motorcycle accident is reported. Research shows that about 13,000 motorcycle riders are hurt every year in accidents in California. Also, about 2,300 motorcycle accidents leave people with serious injuries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that more than half of the 5,114 motorcycle accidents that killed people in 2019 involved a car. In an accident, motorcycle riders are 16 times more likely to get hurt and 35 times more likely to die than car passengers.

Motorcyclists are not as safe when there is an accident as people in a car. Motorcycles are less secure than other vehicles because they are less stable, and other drivers can’t see them.
