[08-23-2023] Santa Cruz County, CA – 31-Year-Old Woman Hospitalized Following Car Vs. Semi-Truck Collision Near Watsonville

A 31-year-old woman was hospitalized after a car vs. semi-truck collision near Watsonville on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Highway 129, east of Murphy Road, around 5:39 a.m.

Hollister resident Sabrina I. was driving a red 2006 KIA Sportage on the highway, while 37-year-old Modesto resident Alexander G. was driving a 2018 Kenworth semi-truck in the opposite lane.

Due to unknown circumstances, the Kia drove over the solid double yellow lines and collided head-on with the semi-truck, sending her vehicle off the road and catching fire. An investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash.

The KIA driver was airlifted to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries, while the truck driver was uninjured.

Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in this incident.
