Pending the toxicology results, it is unknown if the pedestrian’s use of drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
Fatal Pedestrian Crash Statistics
One of the fatal car accidents is a collision involving a pedestrian. This is partly because other road users are less likely than pedestrians to sustain injuries or pass away from traffic-related causes. In the event of an accident, they are not secured.
According to reports in the US, injuries and fatalities among pedestrians are on the rise. Over the past three decades, pedestrians have significantly contributed to traffic fatalities.
In the United States, there were 5,937 fatalities among pedestrians in 2017. An estimated one person passes away every 88 minutes. Injuries to pedestrians that were not fatal resulted in an estimated 137,000 hospital visits in 2017.
Recent studies show California has the highest fatalities and severe injuries among states involving pedestrians. In California, there were 14,000 injuries and 893 deaths among pedestrians in 2018.
Most pedestrian accidents result from driver error, such as speeding and failing to yield. It is impossible to overstate the value of having an experienced attorney on your side.
