Reckless Driving Accident Statistics

When drivers are rude or careless, they put other people’s lives in danger without any reason to. It is not okay for reckless driving to hurt people who have done nothing wrong. When drivers do this, they should be held responsible for the injuries and deaths they cause.

Aggressive driving is a significant cause of traffic accidents, road rage, and many highway deaths in the United States every year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that aggressive driving is when someone does a series of moving traffic violations to put other people or their property in danger.

Aggressive driving is hard to measure, but an American Automobile Association study from 2009 found that from 2003 to 2007, it was a factor in 56% of fatal accidents. According to the Fatal Accident Reporting System of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the most common cause is going too fast.

In California, driving without paying attention is a serious traffic violation or a hazardous way to drive. People often use reckless, careless, and improper words to mean the same thing. No matter what you call it, it is much more likely that a severe car accident will happen.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that 3,623 people died in car accidents in California in 2016. This is more than a thousand more than in 2010. 1,059 people died because of drunk driving, and 1,056 died because they went too fast.

Sacramento County Car Accident Lawyers

Most car accident cases are based on the law of negligence. But in an accident caused by reckless driving, your California reckless driving accident lawyer will try to prove that the other driver was at fault by showing that they did something on purpose, which is called “negligence per se.” Intentional behavior, like driving while drunk or high, is something you choose to do, putting you at a higher risk of inevitable consequences.

Since driving recklessly is against the law in California and negligence per se means breaking the law, a pedestrian, passenger, or other road user who gets hurt may be able to prove that the driver was negligent per se. In either case, you need the training and experience of a California reckless driving accident attorney to have a strong claim.
