Personal Injury Statistics

Each year, millions of people in the United States suffer from personal injuries. These injuries can range from minor cuts and bruises to life-threatening conditions such as traumatic brain injury or spinal cord damage.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 31 million people were treated for personal injuries in 2017. Of these, nearly 6 million were seriously injured and required hospitalization. Each year, personal injuries result in billions of dollars in medical costs and lost productivity. In fact, the total economic cost of personal injuries in the United States is estimated to be more than $800 billion annually.

Despite these staggering numbers, some positive trends are emerging. Unintentional injury deaths have declined by more than 40% since 2000, and the rate of nonfatal injuries has also decreased significantly over the past two decades. These trends suggest that efforts to improve safety and prevent accidents are beginning to pay off.

Santa Clara County Personal Injury Lawyers

No one ever expects to be involved in an accident, but unfortunately, they happen all the time. If you’ve been injured in an accident that wasn’t your fault, you may wonder what your options are.

There are a few different types of personal injury claims that you can make. The first is a negligence claim. This is where you allege that the other party was responsible for your injuries because they were not careful enough. For example, if you were in a car accident and the other driver was at fault, you would file a negligence claim against them.

The second type of personal injury claim is an intentional tort claim. This is where you allege that the other party intentionally caused your injuries. For example, if someone assaulted you, you would file an intentional tort claim against them.

The third type of personal injury claim is a strict liability claim. This is where you allege that the other party is responsible for your injuries regardless of fault. For example, if a defective product injured you, you would file a strict liability claim against the manufacturer.

No matter what type of personal injury claim you want to make, it’s important to speak to a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible so that they can help you understand your rights and options.
