According to the California Highway Patrol, a teenager has died, and another was taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Yreka Friday, September 16, 2022.
The crash occurred around 9:37 p.m. near Ager Road north of Shelly Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the teens were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The injured person was taken to Yreka’s University of California Davis Children’s Medical Center.
Deputies from the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, the CAL FIRE Siskiyou unit, and CHP officers from Yreka were sent to the scene.
When CAL FIRE officers got there first, they saw two teens who had been thrown from the wreckage.
One was declared dead at the scene, and the other was taken to Fairchild Medical Center and flown to Davis by helicopter.
CHP said that because the teens are so young, they will not give out their names.
The reason for the crash is still being looked into.
Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Every year in California, thousands of people die in accidents with only one car.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that about 62% of California’s fatal crashes involve only one car. Because there are so many dangers on the roads in California, drivers must always be alert.
A lot of different things can cause single-car wrecks. If you drive carelessly on a slippery road, your car could run away or go off the road. It’s possible that a large branch or enough other trash to fill a truck washed up on the side of the road. That could make driving even more dangerous.
Even if another driver’s carelessness caused the accident, you might not be able to get much money from your insurance company if it was a one-car accident.
Siskiyou County Car Accident Lawyers
Even if no one gets hurt, driving without paying attention is still wrong. If a careless driver caused your death, you might be able to file a claim with their insurance company.
It can be hard on your emotions when you have to testify in a deposition or trial and talk about past hurts and losses in front of a big crowd. Legal issues can take up people’s thoughts.
If the other driver apologizes and the victim is still not happy, they should take legal action right away. People who are to blame for the deaths of several people because of someone else’s carelessness need to be held responsible for what they did. Even if it makes them feel bad, a family should file a lawsuit for wrongful death. This will change how people get around on the roads in California.
