Multi-Vehicle Accident Statistics
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigated multi-vehicle crashes and found that about two million collisions occur yearly. 16,123 individuals were wounded or died in car crashes in San Bernardino County in 2019. Frontal impacts accounted for 15 driver fatalities per million registered automobiles in multiple-vehicle incidents in 2020.
Multi-vehicle crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents on the road due to the high levels of speed and force involved. Despite major efforts by the city to reduce the frequency of deadly fatalities on its roads, car accidents in San Bernardino are on the rise.
Multi-vehicle collisions often happen on highways. When automobile drivers are not paying attention to the road, they may not see that the traffic has stopped and may rear-end the vehicle in front of them, starting a chain reaction. In some cases,multi-vehicle accidents can be caused by one car making a sudden lane change and cutting off another vehicle. The car cut off may swerve into oncoming traffic or hit the guardrail.
Multi-vehicle accidents can also occur when one car hydroplanes on a wet road and collides with another vehicle. Whatever the cause, multi-vehicle accidents often result in serious injuries and property damage.
