According to the authorities, one person was killed, and 12 others were injured after a car slammed into a busy sidewalk taco business in Pomona on Friday, October 14.
The crash occurred at around 7:45 p.m., east of Los Angeles, in Pomona.
According to authorities, the vehicle reportedly veered across the street, leaped a curb, and slammed into the tent.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the coroner’s office, the deceased victim was identified on Saturday as 52-year-old Gilberto P. He was the father of four who was buying dinner at the taco stand, according to his goddaughter, who spoke to local news.
According to authorities, two more persons were treated on the scene, and ten more were transferred to the hospital; three of them were in critical condition.
The driver fled the vehicle but eventually turned himself in after more than an hour. She was recognized as a 26-year-old Pomona resident. The authorities, however, have not disclosed her name yet.
She was detained on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury and vehicular manslaughter with great negligence.
The investigators will try to ascertain whether alcohol or drugs were used before the collision.
Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
The number of people killed in single-vehicle accidents in California is shockingly high. If an accident only involves one car, only that car will be damaged. Driving off the road or into a stationary object are both potential causes. Intoxicated or fatigued driving, low visibility, and bad weather are all contributors to these accidents.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 62% of all traffic fatalities in California are the result of a single-vehicle accident. California drivers must always be on the lookout for potential dangers to avoid being distracted.
A single-vehicle crash can be caused by a number of different things. Runaways and accidents are more common on wet roads, especially when drivers are going fast or making sharp turns. A piece of truck cargo or a downed tree limb are two examples of potential roadside hazards.
Even if the other driver was negligent, your ability to recover damages in a single-vehicle accident may be severely limited by the coverage plan of your insurance policy.
