Train Accident Statistics
Trains are a dependable mode of transportation, whether used for commuting or shipping goods. Conductors must possess the knowledge and abilities necessary to ensure both the safety of passengers and non-passengers when using various modes of transportation. They might behave irresponsibly or make poor decisions that harm others.
In the US, there are about 5,800 train-car collisions every year, most of which occur near railroad crossings. These tragic events caused 600 fatalities and 2,300 injuries, which was to be expected.
According to estimates, crossings with insufficient, improperly maintained, or nonexistent active safety systems account for more than half of fatal train collisions. In some circumstances, there may be no protection.
Over 1,000 people are hurt in railroad accidents each year in the US, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. Some accidents that could push commuter trains from behind, like Metrolink in Southern California, include derailments, collisions with other trains or vehicles, and exposed railroad crossings.
An engine pulls the carriages out in front of the train as it moves forward. Vehicles involved in collisions while powered by their engines are more likely to be detailed.
