[11-06-2022] Two CHP Officers, Two Other People Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision in ModestoThe California Highway Patrol reported that two of their officers and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle collision in Modesto on early Sunday morning, November 6, 2022.

According to the CHP, two vehicles crashed at 2:45 a.m. at the Yosemite Boulevard and Albers/Geer roads intersection.

Officer Tom Olsen, the spokesman for the CHP Modesto area, said the CHP patrol vehicle 2017 Dodge Charger was traveling west on Yosemite as it approached the Albers/Geer intersection with its lights and siren activated in response to a traffic collision.

A 2014 Dodge SUV traveling south on Albers also arrived at the crossroads simultaneously. The SUV’s front end collided with the right side of the CHP vehicle. The Charger was hurled southwest into a utility pole, where it stopped.

The two officers got minor cuts and complained of pain as they were transferred to Doctors Medical Center. Their identities were not disclosed, but the driver is 29 and the passenger is 28, employed for six and five years in the department, respectively.

The SUV driver, 50-year-old Ceres resident Rosario R., and the passenger, 51-year-old Modesto resident Gerardo E. both complained of pain and were also brought to Doctors Medical Center.

According to Olsen, all four people involved were fastened in properly. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Olsen stated that while the investigation continued regarding who ran the red light, it is a common policy for a CHP car to pause before entering an intersection, even with its lights and siren activated.

The officer assured that they would always conduct a fair and impartial investigation.
