The California Highway Patrol said a 26-year-old man was seriously injured following a hit-and-run collision southeast of Ceres on Saturday evening, November 12, 2022.
According to the CHP, the crash transpired at 7:17 p.m. at Service and Pioneer roads.
Anthony R., 26 from Modesto, was ejected from his 2014 Nissan sedan for not wearing a seatbelt during the collision. He was found on the road and was taken to the trauma center at Memorial Medical Center by Medi-flight.
Rodriguez reportedly survived the crash and would likely recover.
Upon investigation, Rodriguez stopped at the stop sign while traveling south on Pioneer Avenue. Jonathan S., 19 of Hickman, approached the intersection in a 2015 Chevy pickup traveling east on Service Road without stopping and hit the driver’s side.
Sanchez ran away on foot before showing up at the Ceres Police Department to claim his pickup was stolen. He was identified as the hit-and-run driver and detained at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for felony hit-and-run after being cleared for injuries.
Alcohol or drug use doesn’t seem to have had a role in the collision.
Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
Hit-and-run accidents are treated as major offenses in the country. Almost everyone will immediately point the finger of guilt and charge the motorist if he is ever found.
At least one hit-and-run accident occurs every day in the United States. About 2,000 individuals have been killed by these incidents since 2006. Of those, 60% were pedestrians.
Every fifth time a pedestrian is hit, the driver responsible for the mishap disappears. Intoxication, driving without a license, and the fear of arrest are common factors in these drivers’ decisions to leave.
Between 2007 and 2016, the overall number of people killed in automobile accidents went down by 14%, whereas the number of those killed while walking rose by 27%.
Hit-and-run accidents were California’s leading cause of death between 2009 and 2016. There were 3,056 fatalities in the United States due to automobile accidents in 2012. A total of 3,562 of these fatalities can be directly attributed to the Golden State.
