[12-01-2022] Riverside County, CA – Child Riding E-Bike Severely Injured After Collision at a Menifee Intersection

A child riding an e-bike was struck and sustained severe head trauma at a Menifee intersection Thursday afternoon, December 1, 2022.

According to the authorities, the collision occurred around 4:00 p.m. at Newport Road and Westlink Drive.

Reports stated that the child, whose age and identity were not released, was riding his e-bike westbound on Newport’s north sidewalk before turning southbound onto Westlink to cross to the opposite side of Newport.

The victim reportedly entered into traffic without following traffic signals.

A Chevrolet Traverse was headed southbound on Westlink, about to turn right onto Newport, when the vehicle collided with the victim, ejecting him from the e-bike.

The Chevrolet driver came to a complete stop after hitting the child.

Responders arrived quickly and found the victim, who did not wear a helmet, suffering from a significant head injury.

After being transported to a regional trauma facility for treatment, the victim remains stable.

Meanwhile, the uninjured driver was questioned but not arrested.

The crash appears not to have been caused by alcohol or drugs.
