Fatal Bicycle Accident Statistics

Certainly, accidents will still occur, no matter how many rules there are to safeguard cyclists in the United States. In 2018, over 800 bikers were killed in the United States, with the highest number of fatalities occurring in California.

In the event of an accident, however, the cyclist is responsible for the cleanup. The number of bicycle accidents in the United States decreased by 50,000 last year. Despite a 12% drop in bicycle accidents in 2001 in the country, the death toll rose.

Three hundred and seventy cyclists died of undetermined causes. At the same time, seven hundred and twelve were killed when they were hit by cars, according to data compiled by the National Center for Health Statistics.

When compared to the rest of the United States, California has the highest rate of fatalities per 100,000 persons caused by bicycle accidents. The National Bicycle Safety Foundation reports that 145 cyclists were killed and 11,116 were injured in California in 2017.

There are a few potential dangers in normal riding. People in cars frequently break the rules of the road and travel dangerously close to bicyclists, putting their lives in peril. This raises the risk of injury and even death.
