Train Crash Statistics
In the United States, about 5,800 train-car accidents happen each year, most of which occur at railroad crossings. About 600 people die, and about 2,300 are hurt in these accidents, which occur all the time.
More than half of all fatal train accidents happen at crossings that don’t have active safety devices or have safety devices that aren’t good enough or don’t have any safety devices at all. In some cases, there are no safety devices at all.
During the day, about 75% of car and train collisions happen when the train hits the car. It happens about half the time at night. When a crossing isn’t well marked, a passing vehicle would usually get struck by a train.
Bus and train accidents usually involve many people and can cause many injuries or even death. Many people could be held responsible for your injuries after a public transportation accident, and they could all be sued. You might be able to hold the person who caused your accident accountable for your damages.
