Hit-And-Run Collision Statistics
Individuals may be injured or even die in a collision or traffic accident. More than 70,000 pedestrians are killed or injured each year in the US, according to government statistics. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a pedestrian was killed in a car accident every 1.5 hours in 2016.
Distracted driving is one of the major causes of injuries to pedestrians. The radio may be adjusted, the phone may be used, or the driver may interact with passengers. One is more likely to miss someone crossing the street when they are multitasking.
You should always be aware of your surroundings as a pedestrian and check for any indications that a driver might not see you. If the distracted driver appears to be doing so, you should proceed to cross the street when they are not present.
Another frequent factor in pedestrian injuries is poor visibility. An unfavorable weather forecast or time of day could contribute to this event. Your vision will probably be compromised if you are unable to see clearly.
To be seen in these circumstances and to prevent injury, dress brightly. It would be best if you crossed the street only when the approaching driver could see you and with caution.
