Officers from the California Highway Patrol Barstow Area were called to a two-vehicle traffic collision at around 5:35 a.m. on the northbound I-15, north of Baker, near mile marker 15 SBD 145.

Hagedorn was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 sedan at an unknown speed along with a 38-year-old female from Bell, seated in the right front seat.

The Mercedes was driving in the third lane when it came to the back of a 2014 Freightliner Cascadia trailer combination being driven by a 48-year-old Moreno Valley resident.

According to CHP officials, Hagerdon turned the Mercedes to the right and collided with the trailer’s rear as it continued to travel at an unsafe speed for the slower-moving semi up ahead.

Before returning to the freeway, the Mercedes left the pavement and traveled a short distance through an area of open desert terrain. The Freightliner’s side was struck by the Mercedes, which then tangled up beneath the trailer.

According to the authorities, the semi dragged the car a short distance before pulling to the right shoulder and stopping.

When they arrived, the emergency services discovered Hagedorn trapped inside his car. Around 6:20 in the morning, he was declared dead on the scene.

Mercy Air airlifted the female passenger to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, for serious injuries.

According to the CHP incident logs, the deceased man was her husband, and the woman was pregnant. The Freightliner’s driver was unharmed.

According to CHP, it is not believed that drugs or alcohol played a role in this collision.

The California Highway Patrol Barstow Area is handling the investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the office at (760) 255-5900.

Traffic Crash Statistics

Traffic accidents happen for many reasons. While road problems or safety facilities cause some accidents, most traffic accidents are caused by drivers’ failure to follow regulations, consider pedestrians, and recognize dangerous behaviors.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.35 million people die yearly from traffic accidents. Between 20 and 50 million more people sustain non-fatal injuries, with many becoming disabled.

Ignorance is a common cause of traffic accidents. The majority of a driver’s knowledge is gained through practice. This explains why so many new circumstances result in accidents. If you know what happens when you speed or brake suddenly in unusual conditions such as rain, snow, or a winding road, you will be cautious not to speed or brake suddenly.

While some drivers slow down when they recognize potential hazards in certain situations, others do not see any danger. These differences in danger recognition result from prior experiences and, more specifically, different standards. Drivers who are more eager to get to their destination as soon as possible are more likely to take risks.
