Traffic Accident Statistics
Traffic accidents are a common occurrence on our roads. They can happen for many reasons, such as driver error, poor road conditions, or drunk driving. When they happen, they can often result in serious injuries or even fatalities.
According to Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) estimates, there were 147,292 traffic accidents in California in 2020. While this is a decrease from 2019, it is primarily due to fewer people on the road due to COVID-19 quarantines. Despite this, California continues to lead the nation in fatal car accidents.
One of the most dangerous types of traffic accidents is a head-on collision. This happens when two cars collide directly front-to-front. Head-on collisions often result from drivers crossing the center line on the road. They can also occur when a driver loses control of their car and ends up plowing into oncoming traffic.
Head-on collisions are hazardous because the drivers and passengers in both cars are subject to significant impact forces. These forces can cause serious injuries, such as brain damage, spinal cord injuries, and broken bones. They can also lead to death.
In order to avoid head-on collisions, it is important for drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to use caution when driving in areas with a high risk of this type of accident. Drivers should also ensure that their car is in good working condition to avoid losing control while driving.
