A motorcycle rider was hospitalized after crashing with a vehicle in Santa Clarita on Tuesday evening, November 29, 2022.
According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, responders were called to the site around 7:58 p.m. at the McBean Parkway and Magic Mountain Parkway intersection.
The motorcyclist crashed into a vehicle at the intersection. The exact cause of the collision, however, remained unclear.
The motorcycle was traveling north on McBean when the car reportedly made a left turn into its path. The impact threw the motorcyclist to the ground on the Parkway’s northbound lane.
Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the crash and said the rider was taken to a local hospital via ambulance. No further details on the extent of the injuries were released.
The authorities looked further into the collision, including whether speeding, alcohol, or drugs played a role.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
Despite making up only 3% of registered cars and 0.6% of vehicle kilometers traveled, motorcycle riders were responsible for 14% of all traffic fatalities in 2020, 18% of all occupant fatalities, and 4% of all occupant injuries, as reported by the National Safety Council. These deaths can be reduced by donning a helmet.
Deaths involving motorcycles increased by 11% in 2020 compared to 2019, with the rate per 100 million vehicle kilometers rising by 23%. While the overall death toll has climbed by 20% over the past decade, the death rate has increased by 27%. The current fatality rate per 100,000 vehicle kilometers is 5,579. (a rate of 31.64).
With 785,424 motorcycle registrations, California is by far the leader in the United States. Motorcycle riders account for almost 88% of all traffic fatalities and injuries in the state. Only about 6 percent of these fatalities can be traced back to accidents involving no helmet use.
These numbers confirm our suspicions that motorcyclists have a much more difficult road to recovery after an accident than automobile drivers. A four-wheeled car is more visible and stable on the road than a two-wheeled one. Think about the unique skills you’ll need to master while riding a motorcycle.
