Pedestrian Crash Statistics

Pedestrian accidents are some of the most dangerous on the road. There are many reasons for this, but one is that pedestrians are at risk. One problem is that they don’t have anything to fall back on if something goes wrong.

California is one of the states that have the most people killed while walking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says California has a 25% higher death rate than the rest of the country. In 2018, 893 people died, and 14,000 were hurt while walking on Californian roads.

In 2017, there were 5,977 deaths of pedestrians in the United States. At least one person dies in a pedestrian accident every 88 minutes.

Most of these accidents are caused by driving while distracted, speeding, driving drunk, driving recklessly, driving in bad weather, going the wrong way, and not following traffic laws.
To stay safe, pedestrians should only cross streets and sidewalks at marked crosswalks.
