According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, the deadly crash occurred at about 12:45 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80’s offramp to Greenback Lane and Elkhorn Boulevard.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, but it reportedly involved a sedan that drove off the road and onto the offramp.

The vehicle’s passenger was killed soon after the crash, while the driver was injured. The extent of the driver’s injuries and current condition is unknown at the moment.

I-80’s multiple lanes were shut down for about two hours while the crews cleared the wreckage. The investigation continued.
