A 72-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a collision between an SUV and an 18-wheeler in Escondido on Thursday morning, February 23, 2023.
The San Diego Police Department reported that the collision involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV occurred at about 11:17 a.m. at 17900 San Pasqual Valley Road in the San Pasqual Valley neighborhood.
Responding officers learned that the elderly woman was driving eastbound in her 2019 Honda CRV when the vehicle veered off the roadway and into a hillside for reasons still under investigation. The impact sent the SUV to overturn and launch back onto the road, where a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer struck it.
The female driver was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition after sustaining life-threatening injuries. There are no updates on her current state. The 33-year-old male driver of the big rig only suffered minor wounds.
The whole event is still being investigated by the authorities. No additional information is immediately available.
