One man died, and another was hospitalized due to life-threatening injuries in a collision involving a big rig on I-805 in National City Saturday morning, April 29, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded on I-805 near the 43rd Street off-ramp at 9:08 am. when a small work truck collided with a large commercial flatbed truck.
The smaller truck was carrying two men inside and was heading southbound on I-805, while the flatbed truck was carrying a Caterpillar bulldozer tractor. It did not stop the large truck.
Both men were ejected when the smaller truck went off the freeway to the right and crashed into a light pole. One man was pronounced dead, and the other was rushed to the hospital due to life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision and if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
Identities of the involved parties were not released due to ongoing investigation.
