[08-20-2025] San Diego County, CA โ€“ 22-Year-Old Driver Gravely Injured in Suspected DUI Head-On Crash at Cox Road and Mulberry Drive in San Marcos

A 22-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a suspected DUI head-on crash in San Marcos on Wednesday afternoon, August 20, 2025.

According to the San Diego County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the collision occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cox Road and Mulberry Drive.

Deputies said 42-year-old Manuel V. was driving a Nissan when he attempted to pass another vehicle. His minivan collided head-on with an oncoming Lexus sedan driven by the 22-year-old victim.

Paramedics transported the Lexus driver to a hospital with life-threatening trauma. Manuel sustained minor injuries and was treated before being booked into the county jail in Vista on suspicion of DUI, causing great bodily injury, and reckless driving.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
