DUI Accident Statistics

Alcohol-impaired driving remains a major safety concern on U.S. roads. In 2023, an estimated 12,429 people were killed in crashes involving alcohol-impaired drivers, representing a 7.6 percent decrease from the previous year and marking a positive trend for the second consecutive year.

A crash is classified as alcohol-impaired when at least one driver or motorcyclist has a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 grams per deciliter or higher, the legal limit in most states. Exceeding this threshold makes driving both dangerous and illegal, highlighting the ongoing importance of prevention and enforcement efforts.
