A 16-year-old boy from Sunnyvale was killed in a two-car collision in Santa Clara on Saturday night, September 20, 2025.
According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the crash occurred around 9:36 p.m. on northbound Lawrence Expressway approaching Benton Street.
The teen was driving a Honda Accord with two teenage passengers when he changed lanes too closely to a Toyota Camry in the adjacent lane, causing the left rear of the Honda to strike the front right of the Camry. The impact caused the Honda to lose control and collide with a traffic signal pole.
The driver was still inside the wreck when officers arrived. Santa Clara Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending identification and next-of-kin notification. The two passengers in the Honda sustained minor injuries, and the teen driver of the Toyota remained at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
