Two people were killed, and the driver was arrested following a rollover crash in Imperial County on Tuesday morning, September 23, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Interstate 8 near Dunaway Road.
A 59-year-old woman was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche eastbound in the first lane of I-8, west of Dunaway Road, when she lost control. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest in the center median.
Two passengers, a 70-year-old man and an unidentified woman, were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.
CHP reported that while airbags deployed during the crash, the driver was the only occupant wearing a seatbelt. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
