[04-22-2026] Contra Costa County, CA – Woman Injured After Vehicle Crashes Into Grocery Store in Martinez

A woman was injured after a vehicle crashed into a grocery store in Martinez, Contra Costa County, on Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2026.

According to local police, officers responded to the incident at around 3:45 p.m. at the Safeway located on Alhambra Avenue.

Authorities reported that a 76-year-old woman driving the vehicle was attempting to park when she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

The vehicle jumped the curb, struck several potted plants, and crashed into the east side of the building near the north entrance.

Inside the store, an ice machine was knocked over by the impact and struck a 71-year-old woman who was shopping. She fell and hit her head, but was conscious and breathing when emergency responders arrived.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene, cooperating with officers. Police stated that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
