[05-10-2026] Kern County, CA – Man Killed, Another Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash Involving Semi Truck in Bakersfield

A man was killed, and another person sustained injuries following a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in Bakersfield early Sunday morning, May 10, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 1:58 a.m. to the northbound Highway 99 at Hosking Avenue.

Authorities reported that a 2015 Honda Civic was traveling northbound in the number three lane at a high rate of speed behind a 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by a 34-year-old man from Delano. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda collided with the rear of the semi-trailer.

Investigators stated that the impact caused the Honda to veer northeast before coming to rest on the right shoulder underneath the Hosking Avenue overpass. The driver of the semi-truck pulled over north of Hosking Avenue and remained at the scene until emergency personnel arrived.

The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.

The driver of the Peterbilt suffered minor injuries and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Authorities stated that he is cooperating with the investigation.

It remains unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
