[07-27-2022] Santa Barbara County, CA - Multi-Vehicle Collision Involving Motorcyclist Results in One Death on Highway 1According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, a motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle collision along Highway 1 near Vandenberg Space Force Base on Thursday morning, July 27, 2022.

The fatal collision occurred around 7:49 a.m. on northbound and southbound of Highway 1.

Capt. Scott Safechuck reports that the collision involved three cars and one motorcycle.

Additionally, on the scene, the California Highway Patrol spoke with witnesses who had reported the collision. The motorcyclist was struck by what appeared to be a northbound vehicle that crossed over the lanes, but the exact cause of the collision is still being investigated.

According to the CHP, the motorcyclist was also struck by a nearby vehicle.

According to Safechuck, the motorcyclist was 40 feet over the side.

One patient sustained life-threatening lower extremity injuries in the accident, which also claimed the motorcyclist’s life. The patient was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center by vehicle.

The other two drivers weren’t hurt either. The deceased’s identity wasn’t yet known.

Estimates show that 541 motorcycle fatalities and 15,527 injuries occurred in 2017.
