Three people were killed, including a 2-year-old girl, after a speeding-related car accident in Oroville on Thursday afternoon, April 29.
The deadly collision happened at Baggets-Marysville Road and Lincoln Boulevard in Oroville at around noon.
A black Jeep Cherokee driven by Anthony G. and a red Chevy Camaro driven by Carlos H. Jr were allegedly racing on the southbound lanes of Lincoln Boulevard.
The Cherokee then later lost control while attempting to turn onto Baggets Marysville Road. The Jeep then veered off the roadway and hit a power pole before rolling.
Three of the four occupants of the Jeep Cherokee, including a two-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. A four-year-old girl occupying the Cherokee was airlifted to a nearby trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
The Chevy Camaro driver initially attempted to flee the scene but was later located by local authorities. He was arrested and booked at the Butte County Jail for ten felony violations, including three charges of vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, and an illegal speed contest.
Local authorities are further investigating the case. Witnesses that can give more information about the collision are urged to contact the CHP at (530) 538-2700.
