A 61-year-old woman identified as Lamanda Lovin was killed after getting hit by a truck in El Monte on Thursday evening, December 17.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard and Rosemead Boulevard.
The victim was reportedly attempting to cross the road when a 2001 GMC truck suddenly hit her near the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area.
Lovin sustained fatal injuries from the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 28-year-old GMC truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with local authorities.
Fatal Pedestrian Accident Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the fatal accident. They will attempt to determine the factors that caused the truck driver to hit and the victim and the liability.
Pedestrians are more vulnerable to the dangers on the road in comparison to passengers in a private vehicle. They currently make up a large percentage of traffic fatalities in the U.S. these past 33 years.
Pedestrian accidents in California are becoming a growing concern. In 2018, approximately 6,227 pedestrians were killed in the U.S., according to the Governors Highway Safety Administration. This type of accident is commonly caused by distracted driving, negligent driving, speeding, and drivers failing to yield to pedestrians.
When facing cases like this, it’s vital to have an experienced Los Angeles County wrongful death attorney specializing in fatal pedestrian accidents to conduct an independent investigation. Attorneys have the resources that can help them prove the negligence of the liable party. They can re-interview important witnesses, review relevant surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain the responsible party’s phone and texting records.
