Six people were injured while a 20-year-old woman was killed after a two-vehicle traffic collision in Modesto on Saturday night, December 5.
The accident took place at the intersection of Claribel and Langworth roads at approximately 10:12 p.m.
A 2012 Nissan sedan traveled westbound on Claribel Road when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign in the intersection. The 2012 Nissan then collided head-on with a 2019 Chevrolet sedan that was heading north on Langworth Road.
Due to the severity of the impact, both vehicles struck a power pole before coming to a rest. A passenger of the Chevrolet sedan died due to the crash while the driver suffered from significant injuries. The Chevrolet driver was rushed to Doctors Medical Center with a broken pelvis, fractured rib, and internal injuries.
The driver of the 2012 Nissan was later identified as Nicolas Villela IV. He sustained moderate injuries from the accident. Five other occupants of the Nissan sedan sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Villela was then arrested for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision Investigation is Underway
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the case. They will attempt to determine the factors that affected the crash and liability.
