Five people were injured, one of whom was seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 215 in Riverside on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 10:35 a.m. in the northbound I-215, just north of Central Avenue, in the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes.
According to the agency, a box truck, pickup truck, and three sedans were all impacted, though the circumstances were not immediately clear.
Because of the wreck, the HOV, fast lane, and No. 2 lane were completely blocked, and a SigAlert was issued at 10:50 a.m. due to the resulting traffic jam.
According to officials at the scene, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived in 15 minutes.
They discovered one victim with major injuries, one with moderate injuries, and three with minor injuries.
According to the fire department, paramedics evaluated the three people with minor injuries, but they declined to be taken to a hospital for further treatment.
The other two individuals were taken to a medical facility.
The northbound side of I-215 remained partially closed as of 11:10 a.m., with traffic crammed into two lanes heading toward downtown Riverside.
By noon, the CHP was expected to begin reopening lanes.
The cause of the chain failure remains under investigation.
Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics
In the United States, the roads are among the most congested in the world. In the United States, there are 280 million registered cars, and 227.5 million people drive them every day.
Six million or more car accidents occur in the United States each year. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in the United States, taking the lives of more than 38,000 people each year.
A multi-vehicle collision is an example of this. The term “multi-vehicle collision” refers to a collision involving three or more vehicles. “chain-reaction” accidents occur when two vehicles collide, causing another to collide with them.
According to a recent study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 13,000 people were killed in multi-vehicle crashes involving passenger cars. More than 40% of all car accidents involve one of these vehicles.
