Road Rage Statistics
The most frequent definition of road rage is an outburst of irrational wrath by a driver in response to another driver’s perceived act of violence on the road.
Intimidating or venting frustration on another driver is an overreaction. Road rage can become so intense that some drivers would challenge the opposing driver to a fight if they do not pull over to the side of the road.
Disrespectful gestures, verbal and physical attacks on other drivers and pedestrians, and outright violence are all examples.
According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than one-third of all cases of road rage involve at least one pistol (NHTSA). Road rage is responsible for 66% of all traffic fatalities.
Every year, approximately 30 people are killed in the United States due to road rage. Eight out of 10 Americans experience road rage at least once a year. Many motor insurance policies exclude road rage, resulting in 0% coverage for road rage-related expenses.
