[05-22-2023] Santa Barbara County, CA – Male Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train East of Hollister Avenue

A male pedestrian who appeared to be in his 20s was killed after being struck by an Amtrak train in Santa Barbara on Monday evening, May 22, 2023.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the crash occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. in the area north of Encore Drive, off Modoc Road, about a quarter-mile east of Hollister Avenue.

Authorities stated that the northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train had to stop in the area due to a trespasser incident. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene, and the man’s identity was withheld pending family notification.

There was no further information about the crash provided by officials. The investigation is still underway.
