[09-12-2022] San Diego County, CA – Small Plane Crashes Off Runway, Injuring Several People at NAS North Island in San Diego

A civilian aircraft crashed off a runway injuring two people, coming to rest on the San Diego Bay shoreline at the water’s edge at Naval Air Station North Island Friday, September 9, 2022.

According to the base spokesman Kevin Dixon, the plane crash occurred at about 1:15 p.m.

A plane run by a military contractor was involved in the aviation crash. The Navy confirmed that two people were on the plane and that no one was seriously hurt.

FlightAware and the tail number suggest that the Learjet 35 left Halsey Field on North Island at 12:22 and returned at 1:17.

Dixon said it wasn’t clear what led to the crash at the northern end of the runway. He said that the accident seemed to have only minor damage to the plane stuck on a thin, sandy beach.
