A 71-year-old driver was killed, along with his dog, and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision in Temecula on Wednesday afternoon, December 07, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at 2:14 p.m. at Calle Contento north of Madera de Playa Drive.
Steve L. from Temecula was traveling at an indeterminate speed south in a 2004 Chevrolet Tracker when he veered into northbound traffic and collided head-on with a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SUV driven by a 52-year-old woman.
The elderly man suffered severe injuries for not wearing a seatbelt and was declared dead at Wildomar’s Inland Valley Medical Center. The seat-belted Mercedes driver was taken to the hospital for sustaining major injuries. Her condition is unknown.
Two dogs were present inside the Chevy, one of which was killed in the crash, while the other was sent to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.
The crash is still under investigation by the CHP Temecula Area office.
