Ford issues 2 safety recalls for the Fusion and Ranger line of vehicles

Table of Contents

Vehicle manufacturers operate under considerable pressure. They are responsible for producing parts that meet safety standards for use in their vehicles. Developing vehicles or parts with defects can pose various risks, especially if the defect occurs on a wide scale. Failing to meet safety standards may result in serious consequences for both automobile manufacturers and consumers.

A flawed design or production error may cause an accident resulting in injury. Unfortunately, these mistakes occur every year. An auto defect, such as a broken seatbelt or malfunctioning airbag, can be dangerous. Similarly, design flaws can make vehicles prone to rollover accidents. If any of these contributed to your injuries, consider consulting our lawyers at Arash Law. We can help you explore your legal options for cases related to major vehicle part manufacturers and distributors.

Safety Recall For Select 2019 Ranger Trucks For Transmission Shift Cable Bracket Fastener

Ford is issuing a safety recall for select 2019 Ranger vehicles. On certain affected vehicles, the two fasteners that secure the transmission shift cable bracket to the transmission casing might not have been torqued to specification. Over time, an improperly torqued bolt could allow the transmission shift cable bracket to become loose, causing the transmission to maintain a gear condition that differs from the gearshift position selected by the driver.

This condition could allow the driver to remove the ignition key (if armed) without receiving an instrument panel warning message or chime indicating that the transmission isn’t in park. This may allow unintended vehicle movement if the parking brake isn’t applied, putting people at risk of a crash or injury.

Ford is unaware of any accidents or injuries associated with this condition.

This action affects thousands of vehicles across the USA and Canada. Affected vehicles include 2019 Ranger models constructed at the Michigan Assembly Plant from March 5 to 13, 2019.

Dealers will correctly torque the two attachments and check the correct functioning of the transmission selector assembly based on an established workshop manual process. Before the recall repair, the parking brake should be applied whenever the car is parked. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S15.

Safety Recall For Select 2013-16 Fusion Vehicles Equipped With A 2.5-liter Motor For Shifter Cable Bushing Issue

Ford is issuing a safety recall for select 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles with 2.5-liter engines due to a shifter cable bushing issue. On affected vehicles, the bushing that joins the shifter cable can degrade and detach from the transmission. If a shifter cable disconnects from the transmission, the driver’s chosen gearshift position may not correspond with the actual gear the vehicle is in, which could result in dangerous circumstances.

The status could allow the driver to move the shift lever to park and remove the ignition key, even if the transmission is not in park, without displaying a warning message or an audible chime. If the parking brake isn’t applied, a shifter cable that becomes detached from the transmission could cause unintended vehicle motion, increasing the possibility of injury or a crash.

At the time of the recall, Ford had received reports of possible property damage and one potential injury related to this issue.

This action affects hundreds of thousands of vehicles in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Affected vehicles include 2013-2016 Fusion 2.5-liter engine-equipped cars that were not included in the first safety recall, 18S20. This applies to vehicles built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant from April 12, 2013, to February 29, 2016, and at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant from February 9, 2012, to April 4, 2016.

The cause and last service repair are in the process of being confirmed. Dealers and vehicle owners will be instructed to use the parking brake often, and they will be informed if the last remedy is available. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S16.
