One pedestrian sustained critical injuries following a hit-and-run collision in Willows on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
The collision reportedly happened at approximately 5:48 p.m. in Willows on Wood Street, close to North Shasta Street.
According to Glenn County Sheriff’s Office (GSCO) (GSCO), the pedestrian was hit by a car while attempting to cross Wood Street.
When deputies arrived at the scene of the accident, they discovered the 63-year-old female pedestrian lying on the road with serious wounds. When emergency medical teams arrived, they took the pedestrian to a nearby hospital.
According to witnesses, the car did not stop after striking the pedestrian; instead, it continued eastbound on Wood Street to an unidentified location.
Despite searching the area, deputies were unable to find the involved vehicle.
According to the GCSO, the suspect’s car was described by witnesses as a grey or silver passenger car.
The evidence found at the scene suggests that the car may have been a Mercedes C250 model from 2008 to 2011.
GCSO urges anyone with information on the incident, the identity of the vehicle’s driver, or the location of the vehicle to get in touch with them. You can visit the office in person at 543 West Oak Street, Willows CA. Or call GCSO at (530)-934-6431.
Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
The law makes it a serious offense to flee the scene of an accident. Every single day, the United States experiences at least one hit-and-run. Hit-and-run accidents have caused the deaths of at least 2,000 people since 2006.
Unfortunately, there has been an increase in the frequency of hit-and-run incidents. From 2009-2016, there was a 7% increase in fatalities attributable to hit-and-run drivers. Hit-and-run accidents are a leading cause of the rise in unintentional traffic deaths.
Over this period, more people were killed in California than in any other state because of hit-and-run drivers. There were 3,056 people killed across the United States in car accidents in 2012. The state of California was responsible for 3,562 of these deaths.
Fearing serious injury in a car crash is a normal reaction. The situation can quickly escalate when the other driver refuses to pull over and take responsibility.
These people are more likely to flee the scene of an accident because they are intoxicated, driving illegally, or are afraid of being arrested.
