Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to research by the National Safety Council, motorcycle riders accounted for 14% of traffic fatalities in 2020, 18% of occupant fatalities, and 4% of occupant injuries. Still, they accounted for only 3% of registered cars and 0.6% of vehicle kilometers driven. These tragic deaths could have been prevented if the deceased had worn helmets.
The mortality toll per 100,000,000 kilometers traveled in 2020 was 23% higher than in 2019. The overall death toll and the death rate had increased by around a quarter over the preceding decade. Five thousand five hundred and seventy-nine people have died for every one hundred thousand kilometers traveled (a rate of 31.64).
The state of California is home to a staggering 785,424 motorcycle registrations. The number of deaths and injuries on the state’s roads caused by motorcyclists is significantly higher than the overall number. Accidents in which no helmet was worn account for about 6% of these losses.
The statistics show the common perception that resuming motorcycling after a car crash is more difficult than it would be after a car crash. A vehicle with four wheels could make your journey much easier and faster. Just consider the specific abilities you’ll need to master before you can ride a motorcycle safely and confidently.
