A motorcycle rider was killed following a collision with an SUV in Encino, Los Angeles, on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. on the eastbound side of 101 Freeway near White Oak Avenue.
The unidentified motorcyclist was found by the responders fully trapped under the SUV. The victim was beyond medical treatment and was declared dead on the spot. There was no other information on the SUV driver involved.
A SIG Alert was issued stating that the collision significantly disrupted the 101 Freeway’s entire eastbound lanes near White Oak Avenue.
No other details were available as the authorities were still looking into the circumstances that led to the deadly crash.

According to data compiled by the National Safety Council for the year 2020, motorcycle accidents were to blame for 14% of traffic fatalities, 18% of occupant deaths, and 4% of occupant injuries. Less than 0.6% of all vehicle miles and 3% of all drivers were driven by these riders. If helmets had been used, many people’s lives could have been spared.

There was a 20% increase in mortality rate and a 10% increase in the overall number of deaths in just a decade. Death rates per 100,000,000 kilometers traveled have recently reached 5,579.
In the year 2020, over 785 thousand motorcycles called California home. It is one of the two deadliest states in the United States for motorcyclists, with an annual death toll of about 500. Six percent of these fatalities can be attributed to the absence of helmet.
