[04-29-2026] Alameda County, CA – Woman in Her 80s Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle in North Berkeley

A woman in her 80s sustained major injuries after being struck by a vehicle in North Berkeley on Wednesday morning, April 29, 2026.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the 1800 block of Hearst Avenue at Grant Street.

Early reports indicated that the driver struck the woman at about 50 mph, throwing her 30 to 40 feet.

The woman sustained serious injuries, including a scalp laceration, a possible skull fracture, significant leg injuries, and a broken arm. First responders transported her to Highland Hospital for treatment.

The driver, a man in his 60s from San Pablo, was behind the wheel of a 1995 Toyota T100 truck and remained at the scene, cooperating with police. The driver, heading east on Hearst Avenue, struck the woman in the eastbound crosswalk.

The Berkeley Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating the collision.
