A pedestrian and her dog were killed after being struck by a car in Newark on Monday night, March 16, 2026.
According to the Newark Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. near the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Joaquin Murieta Avenue.
When first responders arrived, they found the pedestrian unconscious in the roadway. Despite efforts to assist, both the pedestrian, a 34-year-old Newark resident, and her dog succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities during the investigation. Police have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, and the cause remains under investigation.
