Authorities in Southern California have confirmed that a 63-year-old nurse identified as Kathleen H. was killed in a freak accident involving a stolen SUV in Riverside County on Friday, February 4, 2022.
According to the coroner’s report, the fatal accident occurred just before 8:00 p.m. on Cactus Valley Road.
When a stolen Ford Explorer was being towed by a black pick-up truck, it became detached, causing the crash that killed the nurse.
The SUV was mounted on a two-wheel trailer, with the back wheels on the ground.
Her vehicle was directly in the path of the Explorer.
The pick-up truck driver did not stop and drove away from the scene.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, less than 30 minutes after the head-on collision.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what kind of truck it was.
The crash remains under investigation.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
The driver who hit the victim and fled the scene is the one who bears the brunt of the blame for their actions. If the suspect is found, he or she will undoubtedly be arrested and face criminal charges.
One in five pedestrian accidents is blamed on hit-and-run drivers. In hit-and-run accidents, pedestrians account for 60% of the fatalities.
An injured pedestrian has no choice but to be completely vulnerable when they are hit by someone else’s careless actions.
While other types of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14% between 2007 and 2016, the number of pedestrian deaths increased by 27% during that time period.
Some drivers prefer to leave an accident scene rather than wait for help because they are intoxicated, driving without a license, or are afraid of being arrested.
