One person was hurt after a traffic collision involving a motorcycle near Bethel Island on Monday afternoon, September 20.
The major collision happened in the area of Bethel Island Road at Dutch Slough at approximately 12:37 p.m.
A motorcycle and a vehicle collided on the roadway under unclear circumstances. Why the accident occurred and how it happened have not been established.
Emergency personnel found the motorcycle rider lying on the roadway and suspected that he may have sustained internal injuries.
The motorcycle rider was then airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. It’s unclear whether other people were injured in the mishap.
The identities of the involved parties have not been disclosed. The case is currently under further investigation.
Motorcycle Crash Statistics
Motorcyclists are more vulnerable than passengers in private cars to the dangers on the road. In 2019, the National Highway Safety Administration stated that 5,014 motorcyclists died in motorcycle crashes, slightly down from 5,038 in 2018. (NHTSA).

In 2017 alone, there were more than 16,505 motorcycle accidents in California, leading to 15,527 and 541 deaths. NHTSA estimates that helmets saved 1,872 motorcyclists in 2017. Had all motorcyclists worn helmets, another 749 lives could have been saved. It is estimated that helmets are effective at 37 percent to prevent fatal motorcyclist injuries and 41 percent to motorcycle passengers.
