Fatal Head-On Collision Statistics
Accidents involving motor vehicles continue to be one of the main causes of fatalities and injuries in the United States. Each year, they cause billions in property damage and other economic losses. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that an estimated 38,680 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes, up 7.2 percent from 36,096 fatalities in 2019.
Head-on accidents can lead to severe injuries. Many of these injuries are permanent, which can lead to a lifetime of pain and suffering. Unfortunately, not everyone can survive a head-on collision. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways.
Head-on collisions are one of the most dangerous types of car accidents. The force of a head-on collision is much greater than that of other types of car accidents. Head-on collisions produce a significant amount of energy. As a result of the increased energy, injuries in this type of crash are more likely to be fatal.
