[01-12-2022] Elko County, NEV. - Employees Assaulted by Shirtless Man at Elko WalmartA shirtless man allegedly threatened construction workers in a gun store and employees inside an Elko Walmart on January 12, 2022.

The incident began at around 9:30 a.m. Officers from the Elko Police Department received a call about a man “waving a stick around and threatening construction crews” in a local gun store.

As the officers drove to the location, the suspect ran across the street and entered a Walmart store. The man then threatened the employees and even told them that he would “kill them.”

The man was not wearing a shirt and shoes even though the temperature was below freezing at the time of the incident.

The man was then found inside the Walmart, and he began running towards the exit doors, running into a Walmart employee in the process.

One of the officers caught the man, but he began struggling. As the altercation began, the man put his hands around the officer’s neck in an apparent attempt to strangle him.

A backup officer then tased the man in the torso. Officers were then able to handcuff and identify him. The man was identified as 30-year-old Cody C.

At least two officers sustained minor injuries in the mishap. The suspect was booked into Elko County Jail. His charges include assault with a deadly weapon, battery on an officer, two counts of coercion, simple battery, and resisting a public officer. His bail was listed at $34,780.
