[03-07-2020] Allen County, IND. – One Person Killed After a Walmart Bat Attack in Fort Wayne

A 44-year-old man identified as Demarcus W. passed away months after getting attacked at a Fort Wayne department store on March 7, 2020.

The incident happened at a local Walmart located on 1710 Apple Glen BoulevardThe incident happened at a local Walmart located on 1710 Apple Glen Boulevard at approximately 10:25 a.m.

The Fort Wayne Police Department received a report about a suspicious person in a Burgundy Chevy Impala was driving around the parking lot. He was also wearing a black ski mask.

The suspect then struck the victim with a baseball bat in the parking lot. The suspect then went back inside his vehicle and drove away from the scene before officers arrived.

The victim was hospitalized. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries weeks later and was pronounced dead on April 7, 2020.

Authorities were able to identify the suspect as 21-year-old Levi A later. The defendant was initially charged with Murder and Resisting Law Enforcement for the incident but pleaded guilty to mental illness.

Allen County prosecutors have agreed to sentence him to 51 1/2 years in prison as part of his plea agreement.
