Fatal Head-On Collision Statistics
Head-on collisions occurred when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions directly collided with each other. This type of accident often causes serious injuries and can sometimes even result in death.
It’s mainly because head-on collisions involve extreme force. The force of the collision determines the severity of injuries that victims will suffer in an auto accident. In a head-on collision, the collision force is increased by the speed and weight of both involved vehicles.
There is a lot of energy generated by head-on collisions. In turn, this increased energy means that injuries are more likely to be fatal in this type of crash. Although head-on collisions only represent 2 percent of accidents, they account for 10 percent of fatalities on U.S. roadways.
